Youth & Family, Homeschool

The Lynn Forbes School of Sculpture is committed to today's youth and families.  Special times, techniques and  incentives enhance the youth learning experience.  Moreover, the School of Sculpture encourages parent-child participation as a means of developing lasting family bonds in a healthy, creative environment.

Video Games to Classical Sculpture...

There once was a time when young minds didn't have cartoon TV images and video joysticks to grab their attention.  Instead, youthful thoughts were often shaped using art--just as clay is formed into creative works of beauty using hands.

Studying sculpture is unique in several ways:

  • First, it is an enormously creative artform that helps develop imagination in all three dimensions.
  • Second, it is a "tactile" artform, that allows the artist to become intimately involved with the creation.
  • Third, it is a "forgiving" art form that allows quick and immediate "problem-solution" simply by changing the shape of clay.  Psychologists say that this sort of mental stimulous is especially healthy.

The Youth Sculpture Program has discovered that many young people. like adults, quickly become mesmerized by working with clay.

Family Classes

Special sessions are held on Saturday that allows youth and adults to explore sculpture together.  Some classes involve a model, or adults may join in the more limited "Kids' Creations" classes.

Homeschool for Youth

Youth can also receive homeschool art education in the Lynn Forbes School of Sculpture.  Although parents are responsible for ensuring homeschool curriculum requirements are met, it is highly recommended that a ten week course with a model be completed.

With homeschoolers, a special "art appreciation" component is added to class time which includes teaching from the booklet "Classical Sculpture" by Dr. Ralph O. Muncaster ($5), along with other texts or internet research.
